DUDLEY Kingswinford RFC kicked off their Midlands Division Two West season off in super style thanks to an impressive win away to Whitchurch.

The Heathbrook outfit ran out 33-5 winners to put them top of the table after the opening round of fixtures.

Joint head coaches Neil Shillingford and Mark Lockley were delighted with the win as well as the exciting brand of rugby their side produced.

Shillingford said: “It was great to start the season with a win and a comprehensive one at that.

“We had a good pre-season and the players obviously took confidence from that into Saturday’s clash.

“We have brought a lot of younger lads into the team but they looked comfortable in their new surroundings and certainly not out of place.

“On top of that we have asked some of the more experienced players to take on extra responsibility and they have done that well.

“The team spirit is excellent and the victory will only breed even more confidence.

“We are sitting top of the table albeit after only one game but this is where we we want to be right the way through to next April.”

Dudley will travel to Cheltenham North this Saturday and Shillingford and Lockley will have a welcome selection headache thanks to the return of key duo Ben Connett and Andy McEwan.
