STOURBRIDGE FC boss Gary Hackett described his injury-hit side’s 3-1 win at Rainworth Welfare Miners in Tuesday night’s FA Cup replay as a “job well done”.

The Glassboys played out a 0-0 draw at Amblecote against their Northern Counties East League opponents on Saturday before finally progressing through to the second round qualifying on Tuesday.

The manager has seen his squad decimated by injuries to such an extent that he was only able to name three substitutes from a possible seven on Saturday.

A relieved Hackett said: “I never thought we were in danger of going out, I just would have preferred it not to have gone to a replay.

“The important thing though is that we are through and it was a job well done in the end.

“On Saturday we didn’t play particularly well.

“It was difficult because we had to throw in three lads who hadn’t played this season and the options we had on the bench were very limited.

“I would like to apologise for the entertainment because It wasn’t a classic performance from us.

“I think we were a lot better on Tuesday partly because the players we threw in on Saturday had got a good 90 minutes under their belt plus we were able to welcome back Nathan Bennett and Craig Slater.”

The Glassboys will now face Brackley Town at the War Memorial on Saturday September 27 in the next round.

The draw means Stourbridge will host their BGB Premier Division rivals on consecutive Saturday’s as they are set to go head to head this weekend in the league.

Hackett is crossing his fingers the crippling injury crisis that has hit the club will have eased by the time they kick-off on Saturday.

He is hopeful midfielder Drew Canavan will have fully recovered from a groin strain while Ross Collins and Les Hines are rated 50/50.

One player who will definitely be back in contention is Mark Benbow who has now served a three game suspension.

The boss also confirmed he may have a new face on board to add to the signature of goalkeeper Michael Walsh.

Hackett said: “Hopefully we will have a few extra options available to us on Saturday against a good Brackley side.

“It’s now a case of putting the FA Cup to bed and concentrating fully on Saturday’s important league fixture.”

Meanwhile, the club’s youth team have an important home match on Monday night (September 22 7.30pm kick-off) against Nuneaton Town in the first qualifying round of the FA Youth Cup. Dave King's side have enjoyed a good start to the season and they picked up a point from a pulsating league match against Castle Vale on Monday night with Croatian striker Dreniz Bala scoring twice and Josh Dunn also on target for the Glassboys.
