A HAGLEY doctor turned reporter to quiz Tory leader David Cameron on the NHS for a BBC TV program.
David Nicholl, from Woodlands Avenue, was invited interview the man many believe will be the next Prime Minister for an edition of Panorama set to be broadcast on Monday September 29.
The neurologist, who works at a Birmingham’s City hospital, was asked to question Mr Cameron after Panorama producers read his internet blog and decided he was an ideal candidate to carry out the interview.
Dr Nicholl said: “I find it ironic the blog I started, largely as a form of therapy - to stop boring my wife about stuff I’d read or seen on the news - has ended up in me doing an interview for such a high-profile programme as Panorama.
“I feel extremely privileged to have had this opportunity, which many journalists would have given their right arm to do.”
As a prominent human rights campaigner, Dr Nicholl is no stranger to the political arena and modelled his interview style on master inquisitor Jeremy Paxman, from BBC2’s Newsnight.
Dr Nicholl said: “The BBC’s political editor, Nick Robinson, who chaired the interview said I had done a good job.
“I felt it was my job to give him a rigorous interview which I feel I did - it’s up to the editors now if they’ll broadcast what I felt was a pretty hard-hitting interview.
“I think Jeremy Paxman would have been pleased - I think I asked Mr Cameron the same question three times, so maybe I’m more polite, as well as cheaper, than Paxman.”
