TIME is running out for people fighting post office closure plans.

Campaigners trying to save threatened offices in Quarry Bank, Clent, Barnett Lane in Kingswinford, Silver End - Brierley Hill, Oldswinford and Hagley Road in Pedmore now have just over a week left to make their voices heard.

The Post Office Ltd’s consultation closes on Tuesday October 7 and final decisions on which offices are to get the chop will be announced in November.

Post Office bosses - however - say the consultation process is not to debate which offices should close, but merely to determine whether they have the “best information possible” on which to base their decisions.

Network development manager Mark Partington said under the proposals 91.7 per cent of people will see no change at all at their nearest branch; 7.9 per cent will still be within a mile of the nearest alternative; and 2 per cent will still be within half a mile.

But Quarry Bank campaigner Brian Genner believes much of the information on which Post Office bosses are basing their decisions is flawed.

He said: “It’s riddled with information that’s been either wrongly presented or assessed; many of the population figures have been duplicated - so there’s a case that’s capable of being put together here.”

He is urging people to contact the campaign group on 01384 561463 or to write directly to the Post Office.
