A PEDMORE woman who was inspired to write poems after her fight with cancer has seen her work published in a new book.

Sylvia Horton, from Woodland Close, a recovering beast cancer patient and having undergone breast reconstruction, decided to write about her experiences.

She launched her new book called “Simple and To the Point”, at Merry Hill centre on Saturday September 20.

Dudley Council have helped to publish the book and all proceeds from the book will be going to the Rainbow Breast Reconstruction Group.

The creative grandmother is focused on helping the group, which helped her through her difficult times.

She said: “All the poems in the book are written by myself and are inspired about many things.

“They are not just about breast cancer and breast reconstruction, they are emotive and will affect everyone who reads them.

“I am very proud of the book and I want all the proceeds to go to the Rainbow Breast Reconstruction Group.”

Sylvia is also involved in running the Fantasy Dance Group, which she has done for over six years, as it helped to give her something to focus on during her recovery period.

One of the students Kirsty Brettle involved in the dance group designed the front cover for Sylvia’s book.

Sylvia Horton added: “The book has been selling really well, I am so happy, I just didn’t expect the response and support which I have been receiving.

“It has been wonderful.

“I also want to say a big thank you to Sheila and her customers at the Fox, who has been supporting my campaign.”

Sylvia has also gained a lot of support behind her campaign from the community including Sheila Sidaway from the Fox in Lye.

The landlady has been encouraging her customers to bring in their bras, which she has been hanging up in the pub.

Sheila is also asking them to make a donation which will go towards breast cancer.

Anyone who wants to purchase a copy of the book can pick one up at the Fox pub, in Spring Street or from Sylvia on 01562 720213
