A GROUP of Pedmore residents are campaigning for traffic calming measures to be put in place before some is killed on a busy road.

Lisa Allen from Grange Lane, lives in constant fear due to speeding cars and refuses to use her front door, in case a car loses control and crashes into her or children.

Over the years, residents have been blighted with problems caused by speeding cars and on Sunday August 10, a car lost control and mounted the pavement.

Lisa said: “It has been a constant problem for ten years and we have seen numerous accidents and near misses.

“A lot of people come speeding down the road and lose control, it is a constant worry.

“I don’t use the front door as I’m frightened of a car losing control and injuring myself or my children.”

Dudley Council have put in place three reflective plastic bollards but residents want more to be done before someone gets badly injured or killed.

Lisa added: “The road is a race track and there is a school on the road which I would have thought would be a good enough reason to put traffic calming measure in place.

“Ideally we would like crash barriers put up outside our properties.”

Pedmore and Stourbridge East Councillor Les Jones said: “The problem is a lot people are driving irresponsibly and I have raised it with the traffic engineers, who are looking at accident records.

“The problem is not just the number of incidents but the fact these residents are living in fear of cars coming through their front windows.

“I will be looking at whatever we can do to reduce the risk all together.

“Nobody should have to live in fear.”

A spokesman for Dudley Council said: "Dudley Council is currently introducing a local safety scheme in Grange Road, incorporating red anti-skid surfacing, dropped kerb refuges in the centre of the carriageway and warning signs.

“All of the scheme should be introduced by the end of March next year.”
