WE were welcomed back from our summer recess by Chairman Mary Yeates who introduced Area Demonstrator Leslie Cole. Her creations on the theme of 'Dates from the Diary' were inspirational.

St.George was the motivation for her first design. His sword, created cleverly by Phormium leaves, eucalyptus for the smoke of the dragon and a cascade of blood red roses. An Ascot hat for Ladies Day was next with palm leaves representing feathers. An enormous pink hydrangea bloom was caged in green cane for the crown and was surrounded by a crescent of fuchsia pink carnations and a stem of green orchids. Autumn followed with rich green and russet brown foliage. Burgundy gladioli stood like ceremonial guards guarding lime green Anastasia chrysanthemums, bright blue gentian and small sunflowers. The witches potion jar represented Halloween, complete with silver 'eyeballs' and black 'fingernails'. Leycesteria formosa dangled, liatris shot skywards like rockets and pumpkin coloured gerberas and proteas formed a vibrant focal centrepiece. A spider atop a web threaded with red lights completed the ensemble. The wedding finale was truely fit for a toptable with its cascade of white lisianthus and carnations framed by delicate grey eucalyptus. Pink and white stargazer lilies added a vibrant focal point. The vote of thanks was given by Margaret Fraser and the monthly competition was won by Margaret Saunders.

Visitors are very welcome to come along to our next meeting on October 14th when Margaret Rumens will be interpreting "Come let us sing".

The meetings are held at 7.30pm in St. Peter's Church Hall. For more information visit our website www. kinverfloralartclub.co.uk.
