AT a recent Business Meeting of Soroptimist International Stourbridge Club, Sylvia Heal who is Labour Member of Parliament for Halesowen and Rowley Regis and who is the First Deputy Chairman of Ways and Means and Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons became the latest member to be inducted to the club.
Sylvia joins Stourbridge MP Lynda Waltho who became a Soroptimist at Stourbridge club during 2007.
Sylvia said, “A lot of the ideals Soroptimists stand for run in tandem with my own views and I am pleased to have the opportunity of belonging to such a pro-active worldwide organisation”.
Currently Soroptimist International is a launch partner for the “Say No to Violence against Women” campaign organised by the United Nations Development Fund for Women which is a global internet based advocacy campaign and will run until 25th November 2008, the internationally recognised day to eliminate violence against women. Alongside this Soroptimist International work through a number of service projects both nationally and locally to advance human rights and the status of women throughout the world.
