SNAP-HAPPY Stourbridge MP Lynda Waltho’s photo of Mary Stevens Park is to be turned into a postcard after it won a nationwide parks picture contest.
Labour MP Lynda’s shot of the Norton park was voted best picture by an MP in the Postcards from the Park photo competition - launched this year by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Big Lottery and park’s charity Greenspace to encourage people across the country to capture on camera what they love about their park.
The photo entitled ‘Roots to the Past, Views for the Future’ impressed the judging panel which included celebrated photographer Mike McCartney (brother of Sir Paul) and Damien Demolder, editor of Amateur Photographer magazine.
And the winning snapshot will now be turned into postcard and distributed to Lottery funded venues across the UK.
Lynda said: “Mary Stevens Park is one of the jewels in the crown of my Stourbridge constituency, much-loved and important to all ages.
“We are grateful for the generosity and foresight that one of our most famous sons, Ernest Stevens, showed all those years ago when he endowed the park, in the name of his wife, to benefit future generations in Stourbridge.
“I'm really pleased my photo of this beautiful park will be available as a postcard shot for many others to enjoy - and perhaps it will tempt them to visit us”
Following display at Mile End Park Arts Pavillion in London during September, the winning photos will also be exhibited at Birkenhead Park in the Wirral from October 17 to November 3.
