CHARITY workers in Wordsley have been left fuming with rage after raiders smashed their way in to a shop.

Yobs targeted the Dudley Kidney Association shop on High Street, leaving the organasition with a bill of around £1,000 for repairs.

Angry shop staff say cash earmarked to help hundreds of dialysis and transplant patients from Russells Hall Hospital will now have to be diverted to replace the window trashed by burglars.

Barbara Smith, shop manager, said: “It’s a bitter blow, this is a small shop and the staff work hard to get help to kidney patients.

“This is the second time we have been broken in to in 18 months, it is so disappointing - this is the only charity shop around this locality.

“We don’t pay staff, they are all volunteers and it will take weeks to get this money back.”

Heartless raiders struck at the weekend, overnight on Saturday September 27, by breaking a toughened window to get in to the shop.

Once inside they stole a small quantity of cash and items set aside for Christmas.

The raid was part of a mini-crime spree in the area, three other businesses were reported to have been hit during the same evening.

The Kidney Association provides support to patients by offering a range of services including discounted holidays at an eight-bed caravan funded by sales at the shop.

Barbara, whose husband died three-months ago after a long battle against kidney disease, said: “How can they stoop so low? We sell clothes and brick-a-brak.

“We are appealing for people to help with either money or something for the shop.”
