AS plans for the next Wordsley Festival take shape organisers are urging people to help run the community show.

After overcoming possible closure in 2006, this year’s event was hailed the best yet with around 5,000 visitors enjoying a packed programme of entertainment.

Organisers are aiming to make their 2009 festival, which will include a range of activities ending with the festival on Saturday June 13, the biggest so far.

Committee chairman, Nigel Morley, says support from members of the community is vital to back up work by a small number of dedicated volunteers as they plan the event.

Nigel said: “There are so many areas people could get involved in, I am looking for a treasurer, there is the entertainment committee, fundraising, or just come along and help on the day.”

Nigel is planning to keep a list of volunteers with responsibility in specific aspects of the festival, to reduce time commitments for people taking part by reducing the number of meetings they are required to attend.

The 2009 Wordsley Festival will be discussed at a public AGM, to be held at Wordsley Community Centre, The Green, on Monday October 13 at 7.30pm.
