THE boss of a Stourbridge lap-dancing club exposed in a TV documentary says he takes allegations the venue has breached licensing rules “very seriously”.
Heaven gentlemen’s club in Lower High Street was the subject of Channel 4’s Dispatches programme - which saw an undercover journalist secretly filming inside the venue.
And following the eye-opening programme on Monday (October 6) which showed a dancer getting up close and personal with the secret reporter, Dudley Council says it now plans to investigate allegations it breached its licensing conditions.
Club owner Alastair Rose admitted the girl in question had breached the code of conduct agreed between Dudley Council and the club - and said she had been sacked some time ago.
He said: “I was surprised and very disappointed when Dispatches brought this to my attention.
“I take this very seriously - it was a one off, that’s not the normal behaviour of a dancer.
“It’s been dealt with and I’m working closely with the licensing officer to make sure ladies stick to the code of conduct and hopefully this won’t happen again.”
The Stourbridge club was featured on the programme - as part of a nationwide look at lap-dancing clubs in towns.
The documentary also saw Stourbridge MP Lynda Waltho calling for a tightening of the laws governing lap-dancing clubs, and for councils to be able to class them as Sex Encounter Establishments - in the same way sex shops or cinemas are classified.
Students from Stourbridge’s King Edward VI College also featured on the hour-long programme, talking about the impact lap-dancing and the legislation surrounding it might have on youngsters at the college - which is opposite the Heaven club.
A spokesman for Dudley Council confirmed the nightspot, which opens Wednesday to Saturday, was being investigated following the programme and added: “If there is a breach, the licensing committee has a number of powers, including revocation of licence."
Mr Rose said he had already had a meeting with Dudley’s licensing officer to establish ways of ensuring such an incident does not happen again in the future, adding: “I hope we can clear this up and the club can continue to entertain people from far and wide.”
