THE Mayor of Dudley will be getting on her bike as part of National Bike Week, which kicks off this Saturday (June 13).
To mark the start of the week - which aims to get families cycling, Stourbridge Cycling Club and Dudley Council are running a series family bike rides on Saturday.
And new Mayor - Councillor Pat Martin - will be opening the first, at Stourbridge’s Bonded Warehouse at 9.30am.
World cyclo-cross champion Isla Rowntree and Olympic athlete Louise Robinson will also be on hand to offer advice and tips to budding cyclists.
Further organised rides will leave the Bonded Warehouse in Canal Street at 10.30am; and the canal junction off Kinver Street, Wordsley, at 9.30am and 10.30am.
The circular six-mile trails will take about one-hour to complete.
Longer rides on and off road, led by Stourbridge Cycling Club, will also take place on the day.
There will also be free refreshments and activities at the Bonded Warehouse for participants - plus chance to ride tandem with athletes Isla or Louise, a ‘roller-riding’ race on stationary bikes with rollers and ‘go-ride’ sessions teaching cycle safety.
Mayor of Dudley - Cllr Martin said:“I’m really looking forward to launching National Bike Week and hope many local families will join in the bike ride on Saturday 13.
“Get on your bike will take on a new meaning when I have a go on the tandem so I advise everybody to stand clear.”
National Bike Week is the UK’s biggest mass cycling event and this year is challenging families to get more out of life by swapping four wheels for two to explore their community.
Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. For more information call Dudley Council’s road safety and travel awareness team on 01384 815432.
