CONSERVATIVES in Dudley South were celebrating today (Friday) after holding their existing two wards and bagging a third.
Mayor of Dudley, councillor Peter Miller, held onto Kingswinford South with a healthy 2303 votes to Labour’s 1238, with the Lib Dems and UKIP polling 304 and 486 respectively.
While Glenis Simms, standing instead of sitting councillor Ena Blood, kept Wordsley in firm control by the blues.
And Cheryl Billingham’s victory over veteran Lib Dem councillor saw the Tories take hold of Kingswinford North and Wall Heath.
Dudley South Conservative MP Chris Kelly was pleased with the results both locally and nationally, saying: “Over the country the Conservatives have had a really good night - 12 months into what’s a difficult time we’re holding our own in Dudley.”
Tory councillor for Kingswinford South Patrick Harley said the party’s success in the local poll proved “just how well run this council is”.
He added: “We’ve got a dedicated team of volunteers and a young, hardworking MP - and it’s a winning formula.”
Labour also held its seats in Brierley Hill, Brockmoor and Pensnett and in Netherton, Woodside and St Andrews in Dudley South.
However in the bigger picture in the borough - a Labour victory for Stuart Turner in Gornal Wood saw Anne Millward, leader of Tory-controlled Dudley Council, ousted by just two votes.
And Labour’s Adam Aston knocked Conservative David Simms, husband of newly-elected Wordsley councillor Glenis Simms, off his seat in Upper Gornal and Woodsetton.
