POLITICAL rivalry between a Wollaston mum and daughter is to move into the council chamber after both won seats on Dudley Council.
Labour’s Jackie Cowell became a first-time councillor, winning the Quarry Bank and Dudley Wood seat, in last Thursday’s local election after losing out to the Tories twice in previous wards.
While her mum, Margaret, a committed Conservative Party councillor, was re-elected for a third term in Wollaston and Stourbridge Town which she has represented since 2003.
Despite their opposing political views, the pair who share the same house in Park Road West say they’ll be reserving their differences for the council chamber and keeping them firmly away from family matters.
Grandmother-of-three Margaret, aged 71, who beat Labour’s Chris Hale to the ballot box by 272 votes, said: “I was certain Jackie would get in.
“It should be fun in council, but what happens in council stays in council. We never talk about it at home.”
Jackie, aged 40, who beat Tory rival Mike Wood by 562 votes, added: “It could be interesting, we’ll have to see how it goes.
“I’m delighted to have been elected and I’m looking forward to helping the people of Quarry Bank.”
Making it even more of a family affair, Margaret’s step-daughter Heather Rogers was also re-elected last Thursday to represent Norton.
