AN historic chain of office stolen from an Amblecote church has been restored and put back on display at a borough musueum.
The chairman’s chain belonging to the old Amblecote Urban District Council, which had been kept in a box on a wall at Amblecote’s Holy Trinity Church, was snatched along with two brass crucifixes last July.
The crucifixes were never recovered but the chain was later found in a roadside drain by policeman Pc Dean Palmer, having been dumped because it was too readily identifiable.
Now - almost a year on - the chain has been spruced up and put on display at its new home at Broadfield House Glass Museum in Compton Drive, Kingswinford, where it was officially unveiled last Wednesday (May 11) by the Mayor of Dudley.
Roger Dodsworth, keeper of glass at Broadfield House Glass Museum, said: “It’s got a glass badge which is unusual and it’s engraved with scenes depicting glassmaking, brickmaking and engineering.
“It’s not of great value but it’s important for the history of Amblecote which was a hotbed of glassmaking in the old days.”
The chain was given to the church to display after the old Amblecote Urban District Council ceased to exist in 1966.
