THE building hit by a devastating blaze in Wordsley last night has been declared safe by Dudley Council experts.
Fire broke out at the former Stuart Crystal works on Camp Hill in the early evening last night (Thursday May 12), prompting a six-hour operation to fight the fire by 40 officers from West Midlands Fire Service.
The officers were in defensive mode amid the possibility the building could collapse and roads in the area were closed as a precaution.
A Dudley Council spokesman said: "The A491, from its junctions with Brettell Lane and Brierley Hill Road, was closed following the fire from early on Thursday night through to the early hours of Friday morning.
"A council structural engineer was on site on Thursday night and again on Friday morning and has now handed responsibility back to the owners, who are re-securing the building entrances and securing the perimeters of their property."
