THE outgoing Mayor has praised the borough’s tourist hotspots after taking an action-packed tour of Dudley’s most iconic attractions to mark the end of his year in office.
Mayor of Dudley 2010-2011, councillor Peter Miller, tried his hand at glassblowing, feeding rare and exotic animals and touring the historic caves deep beneath Dudley as part of his whistlestop tour on Friday May 13.
Cllr Miller, accompanied by wife Hilary - the Mayoress, popped into famous sites including Dudley Zoo, to feed the lemurs and penguins, before stopping off at the Black Country Living Museum to serve in a shop and try his hand at games from the past.
He also took a trip through the historic caves under Wrens Nest courtesy of the Dudley Canal Trust, before touring the historic Leasowes parkland in Halesowen.
Later at Broadfield House Glass Museum in Kingswinford he tried his hand at glassblowing with resident artist Allister Malcolm before stopping off for afternoon tea at the Copthorne Hotel, Brierley Hill, followed by a spot of glass beadmaking at Wordsley’s Red House Glass Cone to wind up the day.
Cllr Miller, whose official mayoral year ends on Thursday, said: “The places we visited were just some of the wonderful tourist attractions we have in the Dudley borough – they really are the jewels in the crown for us. There’s so much here you could spend a week in the borough and fill your days with things to do.”
