A GRIEVING mum has made a poignant pilgrimage to a Greek island to remember her tragic daughter on the first anniversary of her death.

Heather Hyndman, whose daughter Chelsea died in Crete last year, told the News she was spending time in Malia visiting the 20-year-old's favourite places.

Chelsea died in a Greek hospital after undergoing emergency surgery. She suffered ruptured internal organs - which Greek authorities claim were caused by her boyfriend Luke Walker from Brierley Hill.

Twenty-three-year-old Luke maintains his innocence and his family claims Chelsea was injured in a fall on a girls' night out but Mrs Hyndman says there are many unanswered questions surrounding her daughter's death.

She said she still doesn’t know how Chelsea came by her injuries and, although not going as far as blaming boyfriend Luke, she told the News she does not believe the Walkers’ version of events.

She said: “The story that is being persued by the Walker family (the fall) has been dismissed by two pathologists, one from Crete and also one in England, as unable to cause the injuries Chelsea sustained.

“We do not receive any information from the Greek officials which makes it difficult to draw any futher conclusions.”

She said she had not had any contact with Luke or his family and she would not be looking to while out in Malia with partner Neil Lorriman and daughter Mia.

Speaking on the anniversary of her daughter's death on May 17, heartbroken Mrs Hyndman said the family "lit candles and lanterns and had a few drinks" to remember fun-loving Chelsea from Yorkshire.

She added: "Chelsea is never out of our thoughts and we miss her so much, it is still hard to talk about these things for me and the uncertainty makes it harder.”
