A KINGSWINFORD church centre is set to host an event marking the centenary of a group dedicated to good causes.
The Mothers Union at St Mary’s Church is has reached the 100 year milestone and the group is hosting a open day on Saturday June 11 to celebrate the occasion.
The Church Centre next to the church, in The Village, will be open for the free event from 10am to 4pm and attractions will include displays of photos covering the lifetime of the group, craft items to buy and light refreshments.
Branch President, Liz Green, said: “We hope that lots of folks from far and near will come and visit our exhibition and celebrate with us. We believe it is a major milestone in the life of the Kingswinford community.”
Kingswinford Mothers Union currently has around 30 members who hold a monthly meeting, usually on the first Wednesday of each month to co-ordinate their community work.
Group members take part in a range of activities including visits to mums and families in hospital to offer help and support.
The Mothers Union also collects toiletries and other items to support the practical work of The Women’s Refuge in Halesowen and in the past has taken part in prison visiting initiatives.
