A STOURTON mum’s traditional Black Country dish proved an award-winning favourite in a cookery competition launched by Gino D’Acampo.
Marjorie Jeavons from Wollaston Road won the contest called There’s No Taste Like Home launched by the top chef to find a talented home cook able to serve up a delicious family recipe.
The 58-year-old college lecturer fought off competition from two other finalists in a cook-off at Birmingham’s Bank restaurant where she was named winner after her traditional Black Country ‘Groaty Dick’ went down a treat with TV chef and judge Gino.
Marjorie was presented with a commemorative plate for her efforts and her tasty stew which combines groats, beef, carrots, parsnips and stock will also appear on the swanky eatery’s menu for a month after the show airs at the end of August.
She said the recipe had been in the family for generations and added: “It’s a proper Black Country dish. We have it at a bonfire party every year and it goes down really well.”
