A STOURBRIDGE vicar is turning on the pedal power to get to the church on time for his next sermon.
Reverend Ron Curtis, from St Thomas’s Church, Market Street, is hitting the road at 2pm Friday (June 10) for a 110 mile round trip with the aim of getting back in time for the Sunday service at 10am.
Rev Curtis and fellow cyclist Steve Knight will be calling a churches in Kidderminster, Stourport, Stratford-upon-Avon and Warwick on their way to Worcester, Coventry and Birmingham cathedrals to raise cash for good causes.
The pedaling preacher will be raising money for the When You Wish Upon a Star charity for children with life threatening illnesses and also for St Thomas’s Flower Festival Appeal Fund.
Rev Curtis said: “Steve and I both know of children who are suffering from life threatening illnesses and we thought that, by supporting When You Wish Upon a Star, it would help to bring a bit of light and happiness into the lives of children who are suffering, and to their families.
“It’s also the 275th anniversary of St Thomas’s Church this year and we are having a big flower festival in the church from July 1 to 3.
“We still have a great deal of restoration work to do on the church, which is a grade I listed building, and so we are also raising money to support the flower festival and our appeal fund.”
Donations to support of the bike ride can be made through St Thomas’s parish office in Market Street or by calling 01384 394185.
