A NEW community swimming pool in Norton to help people of all ages to get in the swim has been officially opened.
Dudley Council leader, cllr Les Jones, paid a visit to Gig Mill Primary School, The Broadway, on Saturday June 11 to cut the ribbon on a new £186,000 pool which has been two years in planning and construction.
The project has been funded by contributions from Sport England and the Ibstock Cory Environmental Trust to provide facilities for pupils from Dudley schools plus older swimmers from the region.
Gig Mill headteacher, Phil Raybould, said: “We think its absolutely fabulous, the old one didn’t look very attractive, it didn’t invite people to come and swim.
“Part of the arrangement was community use and we already have one other primary school using it.”
The pool boasts state-of-the-art design features including a polycarbonate dome and modern changing facilities, it is also designed specifically for learners by being a constant depth and kept at an optimum temperature.
For more information on how to book use of the pool call Sharon Rolinson on 07415 939086.
