CORDONS in Stourbridge High Street have been lifted after a security alert in the town was declared a hoax.
Police were called to Halifax on High Street at 2.45pm today (Monday June 13) after a member of staff received a suspicious phone call.
The area was sealed off as a precaution while searches, with the use of a specially-trained police dog, were carried out.
The area was declared safe at 5pm and people evacuated from shops and businesses were allowed to return.
Inspector Simon Bradbury, from Dudley Police, said: "We thank everyone for their patience and understanding during this alert.
"I'm sure everyone understands the safety of the public is our primary concern during such incidents, however on this occasion it appears to have been a hoax and further enquiries are now being made."
