TWO brothers were viciously attacked in their Wollaston home by masked intruders who broke in demanding money.
Police were called to a house in Francis Road at 10.40pm last night (Wednesday June 15) after three men, brandishing a baseball bat and plank of wood, broke in and assaulted and attempted to rob the two brothers - aged 70 and 56.
The offenders eventually fled empty-handed but the elderly man suffered a head wound, while his younger brother sustained a more serious head injury and remains in hospital in a stable condition.
Detective sergeant Mick Greenland, from the Sandwell and Dudley team of Force CID, said: “This was a violent and unnecessary attack on two men in their own home.
“The offenders all had their face covered and were armed with a baseball bat, or plank of wood, which was used in the assault.
“No money was taken during the incident, despite the offenders repeatedly demanding cash off the victims.”
A dark coloured medium sized car is believed to have been used by the offenders to travel to the scene.
DS Greenland added: “This is an extremely unusual incident to have taken place in their neighbourhood.
“Wollaston is a generally quiet area and this is believed to have been an isolated incident.
“We urge anyone who was in the area last night and who saw anything that may assist our investigation to come forward.”
Anyone able to help the police inquiry is urged to ring Sandwell and Dudley CID at Harborne Police Station on 0345 113 5000 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
