OLD Swinford Hospital School in Stourbridge threw open its doors to pupils from across the country for a day of drama, music, science experiments and sporting challenges.

The school in Heath Lane, Oldswinford, invited 115 students from schools in Harrow, Shrewsbury, Wolverhampton, Kidderminster and Staffordshire to the all-day event on Thursday June 16.

Youngsters took part in a variety of activities throughout the day which culminated in a music and drama performance and presentation ceremony.

Students from Packwood Haugh in Shrewsbury walked away with the prestigious Old Swinford Hospital Science Challenge Cup after a day of creating chemical reactions, building bridges and gazing at mini-beasts, fungus and skin cells under microscopes.

While musically-minded youngsters spent the day composing and picking up top tips from professional jazz violinist Ralph Allin and drama fans brushed up on their Shakespeare before both groups took centre stage for a dramatic and musical performance to round off the day.
