A TEAM of stunt motorbike riders went down wheelie well with the crowds at this year’s Wordsley Festival.

The Flyin Ryan Motorcycle Stunt Show was the highlight of the family fun-day - which enticed more than 2,000 people into King George V Park, Bells Lane, on Saturday June 18.

With more than 30 years of professional motocross racing experience under his belt, Flyin Ryan Griffiths and his team kept visitors entertained with their spectacular tricks and jumps.

Other attractions at the event - co-ordinated by the Stourbridge and Black Country Events team - included the Thomas Jones fun fair, refreshments, stalls, pony rides and side shows.

There was also live music from the likes of Ian Parker, Sean Rumsey, and Of Kings and Captains, plus performances by the winners of this year’s Wordsley’s Got Talent competition - banjo-ukulele-playing Malcolm Palmer, aged 75, from Gornal, and ten-year-old songstress Elysia Rae Faux, from Stourbridge.

Children’s characters Fifi and Bumble also put in an appearance at the event - which was officially opened by Wordsley Festival Princess Millie Smith and Rosebud Ebony Simcox together with the Mayor of Dudley, councillor Michael Evans, and Dudley South MP Chris Kelly.

Festival chairman Mick Willetts said: “It was a great event for all ages with lots of local charities raising money for their causes. Attendance was a little down on last year but due to the present economic climate we were not surprised at this.”
