BOOK fans at The Ridge Primary in Wollaston got all dressed up as their literary heroes and heroines to help bring to life their favourite reads.

Children at the Gregory Road school got into character as part of a book day - which aimed to encourage pupils to enjoy reading.

Headteacher Deb Hudson said: “We had a fantastic time. The children looked wonderful in their costumes; there was such an array of book characters, it was amazing.”

She said youngsters also brought in hundreds of books they no longer wanted which have been donated to Mary Stevens Hospice’s newly-opened book shop in Stourbridge High Street.

Mrs Hudson added: “It’s nice that they’ve supported their local community whilst having fun too. There were so many books that we were struggling to get them all in the vehicle to take them down to the shop.”
