THE sun shone on the borough’s annual Armed Forces Day event at Himley Hall, which saw thousands of people turn out to celebrate the heroics of past and present servicemen and women.
Soaring temperatures brought the crowds to the landmark hall and grounds yesterday (Sunday June 26).
Attractions at the event included a band concert in the grounds, a display of military vehicles and an exhibition of wartime history.
Stourbridge singer Maggie O'Hara entertained the crowds and there was also free family entertainment including a climbing wall, scramble nets and other activities.
Veterans were also presented with their HM Armed Forces Veterans Badges from the Mayor of Dudley, councillor Michael Evans, during the day.
He said afterwards: “It was a wonderful occasion and I was delighted to see so many people of all ages in Himley Hall and Park to celebrate the hugely important work these people do.”
Shoppers also flocked to Dudley town centre on Saturday June 25 to see a display of military vehicles and street entertainers, laid on as part of Armed Forces Day celebrations.
