FUNDRAISING fitness queen Jean Hughes and her dedicated band of Wordsley keep fitters have also pledged to raise money for the Midlands Air Ambulance.

The Jean Hughes Keep Fit Troupe have raised £8,000 for the charity through fundraisers in the past - and they had been planning to pull in a further £3,000 this year through sponsored keep fit sessions, raffles, discos and other events.

But following last week’s raid on the charity - the sprightly seniors say it is now more important than ever to raise the cash.

Jean, aged 75, said: “It’s terrible to think somebody can go and steal what’s been given by the public to this vital service.”

“We’re going all out to get the £3,000 to bring our funds raised up to £11,000. I’ve got a good group - we will get there.”

Jean and her team, who attend classes at Wordsley Community Centre, have raised more than £100,000 for a host of different charities over almost 40 years. Her tireless efforts even earned her a trip to Buckingham Palace in 2005.
