RISING Stourbridge literary star Miranda Dickinson has penned an exclusive tale for youngsters as part of this year’s town carnival celebrations.

The Fairytale of New York and Welcome to My World author, who lives in Wollaston, will be guest of honour at Stourbridge Carnival which takes place this Sunday (July 3).

Miranda, aged 38, is set to judge the carnival princess competition which kicks off at 10.30am and she will also officially open the carnival at 1pm.

On top of that, the RNA romantic novel of the year shortlisted writer will be giving a world exclusive read of a brand new childrens’ story that she has been busy penning exclusively for the family fun day.

Miranda, who will be holding a storytelling session at around 3pm in the courtyard at the Talbot Hotel, said: “It’s great to be able to support Stourbridge. I’m writing a fantasy type story specifically for this and if it goes down well I might put it out as an e-book.”

Organiser David Harcourt said: “It’s tremendous to have the support of a home grown talent who is finding fame through her writing.”

Coinciding with the storytelling session will be a fancy dress competition to find the best dressed book character.

Other attractions at this year’s beach-themed carnival will include a sand pit, donkey rides and Punch and Judy shows plus live bands, dance displays, vintage vehicles, dog show, fun fair rides, stalls and a parade around the town - starting at 12.30pm in Lower High Street and finishing up in the main arena at 1pm.
