STOURBRIDGE glass enthusiast and broadcaster Graham Fisher MBE will be talking about the history of cameo glass at an event at the Ruskin Glass Centre next week.

Organised as tribute to Stourbridge’s glassmaking heyday, the talk will take place at the Wollaston Road centre on Wednesday July 6 at 6.30pm.

The evening will also include demonstrations by top cameo artist Terri L Colledge, a resident at Ruskin Glass Centre which is home to a number of glassmakers, artists, engravers, decorators and repair specialists.

It will also see the launch of a project to recreate one of the most famous pieces of glass in history.

Glass artist Terri, one of the country’s best camero engravers, plans to create a replica of the world famous Portland Vase in a bid to show Stourbridge’s glass trade is still alive and flourishing.

Due to get underway in the next few weeks, the project ‘The Portland Vase of a New Generation’ will see glassblower Richard Golding blowing the blank - after which Terri will begin working her magic and engraving the piece which she aims to complete in time for next year’s International Festival of Glass taking place in August 2012.

The evening costs £4 per person and includes refreshments.
