STOURBRIDGE’S Side by Side theatre company hope to make waves overseas when they take their latest production to the Prague Fringe Festival.

The award-winning group will be heading off on Sunday May 29 for a week-long trip to the European arts festival where they will perform their new show Who is Pilgrim?

Well-known for their original and ground-breaking pieces of theatre, the company of disabled actors have been looking forward for weeks to treading the boards abroad in the show which takes the cast on a dream-like journey to self-discovery.

Sue Wallin, the group’s artistic director, said: “Side By Side actors and dancers have more energy and power to light up the sky than the national grid, they can’t wait to take their new production to the Prague Fringe Festival.

“They are on a continuing mission to prove that just because someone has a learning disability it doesn’t mean they can’t train and produce exciting theatre that everyone can enjoy.”

The trip, which has taken two years to plan, will be the group’s second outing overseas.

Having performed at a college in Sweden in 2007 - they will be showcasing their talents to the wider world this time as the fringe festival attracts performers and theatre fans from around the globe.

Supporters closer to home will be able to catch Who is Pilgrim? - the group’s 14th original production - which is being staged at Stourbridge Town Hall from June 22 to 24.

Later this year Side by Side will then start rehearsals for their own version of Midsummer Night’s Dream which they are set to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2012 and which has been accepted by the Royal Shakespeare Theatre (RSC) to be part of its Open Stages project celebrating amateur theatre.

Tickets for Who is Pilgrim? cost £6 and £8 and they are available on 01384 395350, 01384 422493 or 01384 833849. The old box office (Books Unlimited in Stourbridge) is no longer open.
