May was a busy month for members with three contrasting events.
On the second Sunday, the Papermill Ramble took place, despite the weather being rather threatening. A brief shower did not stop the walk going ahead and the weather relented and later allowed members and guests to sit outside in warm sunshine to enjoy some refreshments.
On Tuesday 17th, there was a guided tour of the JCB factory. After a pleasant ride through the Staffordshire countryside, the visit started with coffee and introductory film show. There followed a comprehensive tour of the factory in which could be seen the whole process of manufacture and assembly from sheet steel to gleaming yellow machines.
The tour took slightly over two hours but there was so much of interest that the time spent was not regretted. After a welcome lunch and a visit to the gift shop, the company were happy to board the coach for a sit and rest during the drive back to Pedmore.
Finally, the AGM took place at the end of the month. This is always well-attended; the fish and chip supper seems to add a certain attraction.
A new committee was elected, the chair being handed over to John Homer. Having held the post for three years, the retiring chairman, Julian Traves, was given a gift token in appreciation of his work.
