The new year for Stourbridge Photographic Society saw over 60 members attending the club which meets in the Bonded Warehouse.
A full programme of events kicked off with a practical evening for new members and an enthusiastic crowd met up to discuss new ideas and work for the coming year.
Fresh on everyone's mind was the December snow and frost which gave rise to many lovely images.
The usual format of events commenced with Colour Print, Mono Print and Digital Image competitions but this year slides have been discontinued due to the decreasing numbers of members producing them.
Lectures were heard from Midland photographers Gary Phillips, Peter Clark and Dave McGuire with Derek Doar visiting from Nottingham to talk about his "Passion for Printing", a very informative lecture in which Derek shared his methods of creating a good quality print.
The usual battles with other camera clubs have taken place, Stourbridge being the winners at Dudley Camera Club but loosing out in the 5 way tie at home. The most recent with Wolverhampton saw Stourbridge win the Digital Image section but loose on the prints.
This year Stourbridge took part in the Midlands Club Knockout at Leicester when they came 6th in the first round, a very good result against much larger clubs than themselves.
The club meets every Thursday at 8pm in the Bonded Warehouse, Canal Street, Stourbridge with a digital tuition night once a month on a Wednesday at 7.30pm. New members are always welcome whatever their ability, more advanced workers will find a friendly atmosphere to share their pictures.
A special Open Day is being held on Saturday 21st May from 10am until 4pm at the Bonded Warehouse when there will be a display of members prints, tutorials, workshops and advanced workers available to discuss any problems visitors may be having with cameras, computer input or printing. There will also be members available to discuss what a camera club is all about and the advantages of being a member.
