OUR lunch meeting held at Stourbridge Rugby Club on Tuesday, June 14, was rearranged as the President’s Lunch to mark the end of presidential year.

Retiring president Norman Bryson reminded members of the various events and activities which had taken place during the year and thanked members and the committee for their support before handing over the chain of office to the incoming president Andrew Scudamore. Alec Beevers proposed the vote of thanks on behalf of members to Norman for his services to the club.

Following the meeting formalities, Probus Club member Eric Greenwood gave an interesting talk based on the life of his grandfather who had been a chauffeur to an eminent Lancashire industrialist at the beginning of the 20th century. Eric linked his fascinating documents and memories with major historical events and social changes during the last century, starting with one of the first driving licences, early photography, fashion, the cotton industry and automotive development.

Announcements of future club activities included a visit to Rose Bank Vineyard on Tuesday, August 30. Our monthly lunch meetings continue on the third Tuesday of each month at Stourbridge Rugby Club. Potential members, guests and visitors are invited to contact our new secretary Chris Baker on 01384 373525 for further details.
