Wordsley Townswomen's Guild
The meeting of the Guild took place on May 21. The Chair, Liz Hubbard, began the meeting with the good news that we had come fourth at the Quiz where fourteen teams had competed. At the end of the evening only a few points separated the teams.
The Chair reminded members of the fire drill and obtained agreement for the April minutes to be accepted and signed. The Treasurer had an up to date report which she welcomed members to examine if they wished.
Ann Birchell, Vice Chair, gave members the following information relating to Federation Reports/Events. With regard to the Annual Lunch on July 30 the speaker will be John Butterworth who was the editor of the Black Country Bugle.
A Harvest Event is being arranged for October 10, venue to be confirmed, which will be £10 per head to include a fish and chip lunch. An Afternoon tea is being arranged on August 15 at Wollaston Village Hall to celebrate 100 years of the Suffragette Movement. The cost will be £6 per head and tea and cakes will be provided. Currently they are seeking a suitable speaker.
The members were advised that at the moment the future of the local Carol Service is under consideration as they have to pay the new Organist £100 and the collection goes to the Church. The national Carol Service is at 2.30pm on December 12 at Hereford Cathedral and a coach will be arranged if there is sufficient support. Programmes are £7.
The Guild's next monthly lunch is on June 4 and Jan Pritchard is making a booking at The Brewers' Fayre in Stourbridge.
We have two coffee mornings planned, one at Margaret Ford's on May and the next on June 20 at Liz Hubbard's.
The speaker Kath Reynolds then gave an enjoyable talk about children's TV programmes from the 1950's onwards to the 1980's entitled 'Watch with mother'.
Wendy Lloyd gave a vote of thanks to Kath whom we had all enjoyed..
The meeting concluded with the Chair reminding all able bodied members to put their chairs away and she invited any interested member to join our Committee with the task of welcoming new members and hopefully having fresh ideas.
The next meeting of the guild will be on June 18 when John Mobberley will be presenting a fun quiz. Visitors are always welcome to come along to the meeting at Wordsley Community Centre and the charge is £3 which includes tea and
biscuits.
