The members held their monthly meeting at Stourbridge Institute on April 18th chaired by Colin Elcock.
A warm welcome was given to speaker David Metcalfe, and 7 of his colleagues.
David who is a National and International prize winner, travelled all the way from Nelson in Lancashire and gave a talk on growing leeks and onions in tubs.
He was then thanked by Colin Elcock for his most informative and knowledgable presentation.
The members were reminded to grow extra plants for the Presidents plant sale on 5th June, and said the proceeds would be donated to the Thomas Pocklington Trust.
Also Jim Baker mentioned an evening garden visit in June and a weekend to Kent in September.
The 1st placed winners of the monthly competition were as follows: Five spears broccoli : G Darby.
Three tulips: J Darby.
Eight pieces of shortbread: W McKay.
Savoury flan: W McKay/M Hodgin.
Six jam tarts: M Hodgin.
The next meeting will be held on the 16th May and the speaker will be John and Ann Guest who will give a talk on Old Tools of the Past.
We meet on the 3rd Monday of each month at The Stourbridge Institute at 7 for 7.30p.m, when all visitors are welcome.
