Emergency services have been called to a large fire at a B&M store in York.
Images on social media on Saturday show smoke emanating from the area surrounding the building, which is part of the Clifton Moor retail park.
The A1237 has been closed between Wigginton and Clifton Moor as the smoke has created hazardous conditions for drivers, North Yorkshire Police said.
A force Twitter account said: “All emergency services on scene at a large fire at B&M Store at Clifton Moor.
“Smoke is causing issues meaning there are road closures in place out to the A1237.”
Residents have been advised to stay indoors and close their windows until the incident has been dealt with.
Police said the blaze broke out in the building’s storage yard and the store was evacuated.
A Yorkshire Ambulance Service spokeswoman said that although staff attended the scene as a precaution, no-one has been admitted to hospital.
