FIRSTLY, with the story on the front cover of this week's Stourbridge News, concerning the activities park in Clent, and the opposition from local residents. Granted, I don't live in the village of Clent itself, however I live about 60 seconds down the road in Hayley Green, and feel that my viewpoint of 'for goodness sake will people make their mind up' is both valid and appropriate.
Of course it will, heaven forbid, bring more people to the area but with due respect why do the older generations, who I imagine are outside the target audience of the venture, have to see that as a bad thing?
They are making the stereotypical assumption that it will be a noisy and overbearing place, which will attract the 'wrong sort' of clientelle.
However, they are equally quick to say that there is absolutley nothing for younger generations to do in the area, resulting in loutish behaviour - then the instant someone comes up with what is frankly a fantastic idea it's turned away with a 'yes, but not where I live' attitude.
Secondly, to all the people who spend their time belittling both the Government, Police and other services in the country.
I totally agree that there are elements of our society that could be far far better, but if all the people of Britain have to do with their time is to sit and criticise something, without trying to do something about it then what right do they have to criticise?
If you find the Police are no good at their job, then join the Special Constabulary and find out if there are underlying constraints or other reasons behind it before you jump on your high horse.
I for one will be the first to admit, that whilst Tony Blair and company may have made mistakes - I don't find room to criticise, because the guy is human, he's a father with children, and to be frank - he's done a much better job of running the country than I ever could.
