Letter of the Week

GLOBAL Warming - Fact or Fiction. Well just remember to be suspicious if governments get involved.

They tell us Armageddon is coming, and already tax your car on CO2 emissions, a dustbin rubbish is to be taxed, they already tax skips. The Tories are proposing a tax on more than one journey a year on air travel and Labour intend an individual tax on the amount of CO2 a person produces.

I have a plausible reason for all these extra taxes.

I start with a story, true or false, you must make up your own mind. A few years ago Tony Blair attended a dinner party and sitting next to him was some obscure scientist, who kept on about global warming.

Sometime later at a meeting with his advisors, he mentioned this meeting and what was said.

He then moved on to how he would secure his place in history. Alistair buts in "You can't use saving Iraq, it failed, the same goes for NHS, schools and transport".

Tony: "Oh God what am I to do". A voice from the back of the room chirps in: "Sir what about global warming".

"Don't be daft" Blair replies. "Hang on a minute" replies Alistair "Let's think this one through, this scientist said we would not have the answer on global warming for 100 years, by which time you and I and all the present population of the world will be dead.

Blair: "So what". Alistair: "Don't you see, we can tax anything that gives off CO2, and nobody can dispute or calculate it.

"Gordon has had trouble lately with Income Tax, it's too crude, everybody can work it out. You will be able to put on your green Superman suit and save the world.

"We only have to browbeat the public, as we have before, call them racists, xenophobic, homophobic, or just anti-social, think up some new phobia, it's worked before."

Now back to reality or is it reality. First most scientists, courageous enough to speak out, refute CO2 emissions cause global warming, official data remarks that CO2 emissions have fallen since 1997.

I have obtained weather reports from RAF Shawbury Shropshire, and taking just the month of June, was able to calculate that over the last 48-year period the temperature has risen by only point one of a degree centigrade.

Let's look at the proposal to ban all filament and halogen bulbs by 2009. Energy saving bulbs do not give out much light, you can not at present fit them in all existing fittings and personally it would cost me approx £280 to replace all the bulbs in my house.

Why can't the government get its act together, why do we have to suffer mediocre politicians (Blair, Cameron and that other fellow).

We could solve the problem quite easily; falling water supply, build de-salinization plants, clean power, build nuclear reactors, nowhere to bury the rubbish, build incineration plants.

Two other points to keep in mind, your heating boiler produces ten per cent CO2 when you burn methane gas or oil, when you breath out you emit CO2. So if you believe in global warming, turn off your boiler and hold your breath. Finally do you really believe mankind has the power to change anything, I think not. It is just another devious way for politicians to tax, tax and tax people.
