I ALMOST fell off my chair laughing when I read the latest scheme to combat the menace of drivers speeding around the Merry Hill area.
Are the people thinking up these schemes living in the real world? Do they really think that these speeding drivers will suddenly slow down if the speed limit is reduced from 30mph to 20mph? Of course they won't! What it will do is slow law-abiding drivers down and cause traffic chaos at busy times.
I\'m getting pretty suspicious about all the measures being introduced allegedly to combat traffic congestion.
To me, it would appear obvious that if a large volume of traffic wants to travel through a particular area, the solution is to keep the traffic moving as quickly and smoothly as possible.
Yet everywhere you look there are new crossings, traffic lights, lower speed limits, and every bit of dual carriageway is being reduced to single lanes.
This would seem to be creating problems, not solving them. Is it just me who thinks that artificially creating congestion is an excuse to introduce road pricing and congestion charges?
