I READ your Letter of the Week from J Brittain with some amusement, but amongst all the knockabout stuff about politicians he has made a remarkable assertion that I cannot leave unchallenged.
He says that "most scientists, courageous enough to speak out, refute that CO2 emissions cause global warming". This is just plain wrong.
He might like to recall that the recent Stern Report reviewed all the recent research and concluded that the evidence linking man-made CO2 and global warming is overwhelmingly supported by scientists.
There is also a lot of deliberate disinformation paid for by oil companies consisting of so-called scientific studies. Mr Brittain needs to distinguish between public relations guff and genuine peer-reviewed research.
By the way, if it is going to cost him £280 to replace his light bulbs with compact fluorescents, his house must be like the Blackpool Illuminations.
You can get 11 watt bulbs at about £1 each if you buy in bulk via the internet.
