WE would like to thank everyone at the Pocklington Trust Mary Stevens Centre for making the 50th anniversary such a lovely evening, meeting other people including the deputy mayor, councillor Pat Martin.

Alot of work went into making dainty sandwiches, cakes and strawberries and cream, a real old fashioned tea party.

My husband and I knew nothing about the centre for the visually impaired and blind until we were lucky enough to become members of the club and the Ring and Ride who take us, with others on Wednesday; there is also a Tuesday and Thursday club as well.

We make things with the help of the staff and volunteers, basket work and other crafts, play scrabble with special large letters, we have afternoon visitors who talk about various subjects, have a pub lunches and there is also a book sent by post which gives us local news and subjects all done by volunteers.

These centres were started with a legacy from Mr Thomas Pocklington who lost his sight but was lucky to regain it.

Thanks again for all the staff and volunteers at the centre.
