A TREMENDOUS effort by three stars of the Stourbridge Shukokai Karate Club, Karate saw them come away from the KSI World Karate Championships.
Star of the show in Zurich, was Thomas Mullett who battled well in both his individual and team events and was rewarded with a gold medal in his Kumite category as well as bronze in his individual Kata event and the mens team Kata.
Matthew Acton also gave a dazzling display in his individual events and team events which led to his selection for the men’s Kumite team and finally winning a silver medal.
Club Instructor Paul Acton gained bronze in Kumite in his individual event and narrowly missed a Kata medal by reaching the quarter finals.
Sensei Paul was extremely pleased with the results, he said: “It is a great achievement for us all to return with medals.
“The standard was the highest I have seen from every country but the whole squad were so well prepared by KSI World Chief Instructor Shihan Eddie Daniels eighth Dan that every member gave 100 per cent.
“As a Country we are most likely to lead the medal table, or be very close to the top, which has not been seen in any other National Team lately, so to be a part of it has made us all very proud.
“We go out as a squad and each award is for every member of that squad.
“We have all worked very hard for this event and have trained up to five times a week for the past year, so when we do gain success it is very rewarding.
“Both Tom and Matthew gave everything so I am extremely pleased with them both, this has been Tom’s best individual event to date and Matthew only a few weeks ago moved up into the mens team and did not let the side down.
“I am sure that more success is on its way for both the lads and the Great Britain squad.”
