Dudley postman, Chris Male is ready to stamp his mark on the Black Country boxing scene when he makes his long-awaited professional debut this Friday (tomorrow).
The 25-year-old super featherweight enjoyed a successful amateur career but became disillusioned with the sport and decided to take a break.
But after a couple of years in the boxing wilderness, Male began to take note of the booming Black Country boxing scene and after seeing the success the likes of former amateurs Dean Harrison and Martin Gethin were having, he decided it was time to get back in the ring.
He said: “I just became a little disillusioned with amateur boxing so I called it a day.
“But then every time I picked up a paper I was reading about the success of Dean Harrison and Martin Gethin who were on the amateur scene at the same time as me I thought if they can do it so can I.”
Male will be taking a large band of supporters to the Civic Hall and tickets are still available by calling the venue box office on 08703207000 or promoter PJ Rowson on 07976283157.
