KINGSWINFORD'S Michael Rutter failed to make the most of a stunning display in qualifying for round ten of the British Superbikes Championships at Croft.
The veteran speedster shrugged off two technical problems and a crash to qualify in second place less than a quarter of a second behind pole sitter Cal Crutchlow.
Rutter retained his fast pace in the final warm-up on the morning of the race when he was fourth.
But unfortunately for the North West 200 Ducati rider he could not take that form into the two races.
He found himself outside the top four before the first lap of race one had been completed and eventually ended up running in sixth.
It was something of a lonely race for Rutter who finished in fifth.
He made a better start to race two and was running second on lap one.
But by lap three he was down to fifth and eventually had to settle for another sixth place finish.
He collected 20 points from the two races to leave him in sixth place in the championship standings.
Rutter will next be in action in the penultimate round at Silverstone on September 28.
