Plucky Gornal Athletic were dumped out of the FA Vase on Tuesday.
The Peacocks were beaten 1-0 by Newark in the second round qualifying at the Garden Walk Stadium on Tuesday.
The hosts started the game well but it was the visitors who created the better chances and should have been leading at the break if it had not been for some excelllent keeping from Mark Fullwood.
The second half saw the hosts come out a lot more positive as they adopted a three-prong strikeforce.
This change of system should have paid dividends but Tim Nicholls, Chris Brown and Jeff Hill all missed good opportunites.
They were to rue there misses when in the 63rd minute Newark took the lead.
The Peacocks pushed hard for an equaliser and in injury time Hill saw an effort skim the post and another one cleared off the line.
Defeat means Simon Williams men will return to league action on Saturday with a trip to Wednesfield.
