A BACK to basics plea has been issued by Stourbridge boss Gary Hackett after suffering what he described as his “worst week in football management.”
The Glassboys manager chilling comments followed his side’s 6-1 hammering at home to Hemel Hempstead Town on Saturday and a 4-0 defeat at a previously winless Rugby Town on Tuesady evening.
The BGB Premier Division newcomers have found life difficult in their new surroundings but Hackett admitted the events over the last seven days had been difficult to stomach.
He said: “In my seven years in football management there is no doubt this has been my worst week in football and it hurts me and I’m sure it hurts the players too.
“I’m bitterly disappointted and I will need to take a good look at the make-up of the squad and myself.
“It’s easy being a manager when you are doing well and getting the praise that goes with that but it is now time for us as a collective to show what we are made of.
“It’s obvious we haven’t adjusted to this league because to have only picked up seven points from 10 games which is just not good enough and there is no hiding behind that fact.”
The manager is confident he will be able to turn things around and lift spirits amongst his low in confidence squad.
He added: “You can’t change things overnight and yes there is a lack of confidence in the squad, which comes from the results we have picked up.
“We must remember though we are only 10 games into the season so there is time for us to change this around starting with the next 10 games.
“We need to get back to basics and that is what we will be working on in training.
“If that means we have to play ugly and negative at times so be it, because it is results that matter when you find yourself in the situation we are in.
“No-one here is throwing in the towel and it is now time for us to show some character.”
This Saturday the Glassboys will be looking for an upturn in fortune when they travel to third-placed Swindon Supermarine (3pm kick-off).
