Stourbridge RFC’s savage seven-try slaying of Wharfedale at Stourton Park on Saturday has been described as the best ever by director of rugby, Neil Mitchell.

The head coach was ecstatic with his side’s all round showing both in defence and attack as they ran out 43-6 winners.

Stour have made a stuttering start to their National League Two campaign but Mitchell is confident this will give them the boost needed to see them push on.

Mitchell said: “It was a brilliant performance and I’m in no doubt it was the best in my five years as director of rugby here at Stourbridge.

“It had everything, from seven phenomenal tries which were all taken in sensational fashion, to a near enough perfect defence that snuffed out everything a powerful Wharfedale outfit had to offer.

“It was just one of those occasions when everything came together.”

Stour will now go in search of their first away win of the season on Saturday when they make the long journey to Cornish outfit Launceston.

The Stourton Park outfit have found life difficult on their travels having lost at Birmingham Solihull Bees, Cambridge and Blaydon this season.

Mitchell is confident they will be able to break their away day duck with the confidence they would have gained from their wonderful Wharfedale win.

He added: “Following the Blaydon defeat we would have gone into this game with some trepidation but not now.

“The self belief is coming and as I told the players after Saturday’s game such a quality performance against such a strong side is not a fluke.

“We have been helped by the return of the experienced Adam Billig, Ben Hughes and Duncan White and that showed against Wharfedale.

“I’m more than confident that if we perform at 70 or 80 per cent the level we did on Saturday we are more than capable of winning at Launceston.”
